Rosneft Announces Interim Results of Biodiversity Conservation Programme

25 July 2023

Tyumenneftegaz, part of Rosneft Oil Company's upstream complex, announced the interim results of a grant programme to preserve the biodiversity of Solenoye Lake.

In 2022 scientists from Tyumen State University conducted a comprehensive ecological and biological study of Solenoye Lake. 428 different species of animals, plants and fungi were found in the vicinity of the lake, 10 of which are included in the Red Books of different levels in 2022.

Preservation of the environment for future generations is an integral part of the corporate culture of Rosneft. The Company has a number of comprehensive programmes for the conservation and restoration of natural resources, including the use of modern technology.

As part of the Tyumenneftegaz grant project, researchers from Tyumen State University also developed the routes of the ecological trail, considering the habitat of Red Book plants and animals. On the ecological trail, scientists have marked the location of the main sites: places where you can meet rare animals and unique plants. They are also developing a shorter route for tourists with children and an equestrian route around Solenoe, Savino and Tundrovo lakes for people who prefer active holidays.

Note for Editors:

Tyumenneftegaz, a subsidiary of Rosneft, is developing the Russkoye field, located in the Tazovsky district of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. The Russkoye field is classified as unique in terms of oil reserves.

Since 2011, the Solyonoye lake has had the status of a nature monument of regional importance. Research has confirmed that the water and mud of Solyonoye Lake are very similar in composition to the water and mud of the famous Dead Sea in the Middle East. According to data available to date, the lake area is home to about 65 plant species and 64 animal species, all of which are included in the main sections of the Red List in Tyumen region.

In 2021 employees of Rosneft's enterprises in Tyumen region - RN-Uvatneftegaz, Tyumenneftegaz and Tyumen Petroleum Research Centre - took part in the environmental campaign "I make our homeland cleaner - Tyumen. Solyonoye Lake" carried out landscaping of the coastal area. Oil workers installed trash cans and bio-toilets. Information stands have been set up for tourists to learn about the healing properties of the mud and clay, as well as the unique characteristics of the lake's water.
