Rosneft Implements Unique Stream Conservation Project in Komsomolsk-on-Amur

30 October 2024

The Komsomolsk Refinery (part of Rosneft's oil refining complex) has completed the the implementation of a project unique to the Far East for the construction of a closed reservoir of the Klyukvenny stream.

This project will protect sections of several roads in Komsomolsk-on-Amur from waterlogging during floods and eliminate the possibility of bank erosion products entering the stream.

The second and final stage of the project involved the installation of trestles with equipment to automatically monitor water level fluctuations in the river, as well as pumping stations. The pumps will convey excess surface water to the Komsomolsk Refinery's wastewater treatment plant.

Earlier, in the first stage of the project, almost two kilometres of the stream bed were enclosed in a protective reinforced concrete structure, providing waterproofing along its entire length. A new bridge has been built over Gorodskaya Street, which used to be washed away by the river during floods.

Rosneft aims to achieve leadership positions in minimizing the environmental impact and ensuring the eco-friendliness of its production. The Company's subsidiaries implement comprehensive programmes for the conservation and restoration of natural resources, including the use of modern technology.

In 2023, the Priamursk Interregional Department of the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources issued a comprehensive environmental permit to the Komsomolsk Refinery. It was the first in the Khabarovsk Territory and the first for Rosneft's refining and petrochemical enterprises.

As part of the process of obtaining comprehensive environmental permits, the technologies used in production are assessed for compliance with best available technologies. These include technical and management solutions that help conserve production resources and reduce environmental impact. In accordance with the documentation developed, the technologies in use at the Komsomolsk Refinery are in line with the criteria of the best technologies.
