Rosneft and CNPC Intensify Education Cooperation

19 October 2023

Rosneft and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) signed an agreement for cooperation in education and training at the fifth Russian-Chinese Energy Business Forum.

The agreement provides for the possibility of training under additional education programs for Company employees in leading educational institutions and corporate training centers of Russia and China in priority business areas. They include drilling and well intervention, improving the efficiency of exploration and production processes, oil refining and petrochemicals, health and safety, carbon management and ecology.

In addition, it is planned to hold joint round tables, internships, conferences to share knowledge and experience, including on oil and gas technology development, as part of the agreement.

Since 2018, Rosneft and CNPC have been arranging cross-company internships for their employees at their subsidiaries and leading R&D centres on project management, reservoir management, enhanced oil recovery, energy efficiency, drilling, and industrial safety. Now, the companies are studying the possibility of expanding their cooperation on the implementation of joint educational programs.

Rosneft and CNPC have been reliable partners for almost two decades. The companies successfully cooperate in a number of areas, contributing to the development of the energy dialogue between Russia and China.

Rosneft and CNPC interact through the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC), which the two companies established in 2017 to explore promising areas of cooperation. They include cooperation in exploration and development of oil and gas fields, oil refining and petrochemicals, oil and petroleum products trade, R&D, personnel training, etc.

Rosneft and CNPC are co-organisers of the Russian-Chinese Energy Business Forum, which was established by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping. The Forum is aimed at developing a dialogue between Russia and China in the energy sector, increasing bilateral trade turnover, expanding the portfolio of joint projects, attracting investment and project financing.

For reference:

Rosneft's cooperation with Chinese partners in the energy sector is of an integral nature, covering all business segments - from production and supply to hydrocarbon processing and petrochemicals.

Rosneft is a leading exporter of crude oil and petroleum products to China.

In addition, Udmurtneft, a joint production venture of Rosneft and Sinopec, has been operating in Udmurtia since 2006. The entity's annual production amounts to about 6 million tons of oil, which is 60% of the region's total oil production. The entity is currently developing 35 fields in Udmurtia, with a producer well stock of about 3.9 thousand wells.

Beijing Gas owns a 20% in Verkhnechonskneftegaz (a Company subsidiary), which is engaged in exploration and development of the Verkhnechonskoye field, one of the largest fields in East Siberia. The field's C1+C2 recoverable oil and gas condensate reserves total 320 million tons.
